Hustlin' as a Stay At Home Mother
Written by Nangie Alexander
Let’s be honest…
Being a stay at home mom seems to be the goal of a lot of women. You hear the slick comments of “You get to rest all day!”, or “You’re so lucky. You don’t even do anything”. What most don’t understand is the amount of hard work that goes into being a mom. It is estimated that SAHM work about 98 hours per week which is equivalent to 2.5 full-time jobs. Crazy right?! Yet so many want to be in our position. It takes hard work, patience, organization and a lot of faith to get through the day by day situations that come with taking care of children and I wouldn’t have it any other way.
Well what about money?…
Finances are often sensitive topics that come with being a SAHM. But in reality, we are saving money with not putting our kids in day care. Of course it would be nice to have the extra income to do things without worrying when is the next time you’ll be able to eat but that is where budgeting comes in.
My husband and I discuss bills and miscellaneous items every two weeks since that is how he gets paid. Is it tedious? Yes but it needs to be done. We always make sure that our bills and groceries are done first before we even think about doing things for ourselves. It’s just the adult thing to do! After everything is set, we go a little “crazy” and spoil our family with things we need and have fun at least once a month with things we love.
Hustlin’ on the side…
One of the things that I love about being a SAHM is having the freedom to do any kind of side hustle. I am currently a YouTuber and Influencer and it is the best thing ever. It allows me to be free and not have any rules to follow. I do not have to clock in or out and I can truly enjoy being myself. There are other options to build a business or generate money. For example
Babysitting
Tutoring
Teaching English abroad
Being an affiliate for a company
Planner (travel or event)
Professional organizer
The best thing EVER!
In the end, a SAHM is a beautiful journey. There are so many ins and outs of being a mother, I personally think we should win a Nobel Peace Prize. Its a journey on finding yourself and using life experiences to just wing it. There is no such thing as being a perfect mom. We all contribute our amazingness to society and if you didn’t know already,
And don’t forget….YOU ROCK!
